WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Angus S. King, Jr. (I-Maine) announced the hiring of Chad Metzler to serve as Legislative Director and Kathryn Shorr to serve as Director of Scheduling in his Washington, D.C. office.
Chad Metzler joins Senator King’s office with seventeen years of Senate experience, most recently serving as Legislative Director for Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI) and as Staff Director of the Senate Special Committee on Aging in 2012. Metzler has also worked in a variety of policy positions under Senator Kohl, including handling the Senator’s portfolio on the Appropriations Committee. A native of Wisconsin and graduate of the University of Chicago and George Washington University where he earned a Masters Degree in Security Policy, Metzler will be responsible for managing Senator King’s legislative staff and agenda.
Kathryn Shorr, a native of Portland, Maine, joins Senator King’s office with an extensive political and legislative background. Shorr served as an aide to Senator Susan M. Collins on Capitol Hill from 2004-2006, as Director of the Student and Young Professional Voters for the 2008 Collins for Senate campaign, and most recently as a volunteer lawyer for the Romney campaign in Virginia. For the past two years, Shorr has worked for the law firm Foley & Lardner LLP as a member of its Government and Public Policy practice group where she has focused on transportation and infrastructure, tax, financial services, defense, as well as grassroots and political activity for clients. With an undergraduate degree from the University of Maine and a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, Shorr will be responsible for managing Senator King’s schedule and additional scheduling staff.
“I am pleased to welcome Chad and Kate to my staff. Both bring a wealth of experience and knowledge that will serve Maine well moving forward,” said Senator King.
Chad Metzler added, “I am eagerly looking forward to joining Senator King’s team and working hard on behalf of the people of Maine. Moving into the next Congress, it’s important that we proceed with a robust legislative agenda predicated on the principles of bipartisanship so that we may bring people together and accomplish the work of the nation – and under Senator King’s leadership, I know that we will do just that.”
Kathryn Shorr said, “As a native Mainer, I am both excited and honored to join Senator King’s Washington staff and to again work on behalf of the great people of my home state. Senator King is committed to staying in touch with his constituents and I look forward to helping ensure that happens.”
