King Announces $1.3 Million for York County Community Action Corporation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration has awarded $1,316,619 in grant funding for the York County Community Action Corporation.

“Healthcare services are a critical building block for any community,” Senator King said. “For almost fifty years, York County Community Action has delivered support services – including healthcare, education, and social service programs – to some of York County’s most vulnerable residents, and this funding will assist them in continuing that important mission.”

Based in Sanford, the York County Community Action Corporation (YCCAC) has served York County residents since 1965, offering social service, health, and educational programs to over 20,000 low-income county residents each year. The organization’s primary health center, Nasson Health Center in Springvale, provides medical, dental, and behavioral services. The organization also has a school-based health center at Noble High School in North Berwick and a site at the York County Shelter in Alfred. YCCAC serves approximately 3,000 people at its three health sites.

Under the purview of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Health Resources and Services is tasked with improving access to health care by building healthy communities, strengthening the healthcare workforce, and achieving health equity.  The grant funding for YCCAC is an annual award in a three year cycle, implemented through the Health Center Cluster Grant Program under the Affordable Care Act.
