ROCKLAND, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) visited Rockland Marine Corporation, a shipyard and fabrication facility in Rockland, where he met with the organization’s leadership to hear their insights on the economic opportunities and ongoing challenges they are facing – including workforce development and investment in innovation. Rockland Marine Corporation recently received a $352,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Small Shipyard Grant Program to update the facility; Senators King and Susan Collins wrote a letter of support for the Corporation’s grant application.
“Rockland Marine Corporation is a mainstay of the Maine waters, working on vessels ranging from the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard, to ferries, to commercial and personal vessels,” said Senator King. “Their expertise and dedication is part of Maine’s seafaring traditions, and their capabilities will only improve through this new grant. I’m looking forward to seeing their continued growth and success as they support our national security and coastal economy.”
Rockland Marine Corporation is a shipyard founded in 1991 that engineers, builds and repairs sea vessels. With three marine railways, capacity for large steel vessels and a skilled team of design, construction and repair workers, they are able to accommodate a variety of projects. The facility is able to provide full manufacturing, renovation, or repair services with their onsite machine shop, fabrication shop, paint shop and electrical shop. Rockland Marine Corporation is approved for work with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Maine State Ferry Service, Casco Bay Ferry Lines and more.
To ensure that he is focusing on the issues important to his constituents, Senator King has made it a priority to travel the state to meet with Maine people; since taking office in 2013, he has taken part in more than 1,200 meetings and events across Maine. In June, Senator King applauded the U.S. Senate’s passage of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which included several King-authored provisions that are important to national security and creating Maine jobs.
