NORWAY, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) visited Roberts Farm Preserve, a conservation and recreation project of the Western Foothills Land Trust with trails fit for skiing, running or hiking. At the Preserve, Senator King met with the leaders of the Western Foothills Land Trust to discuss the farm’s partnership with the Oxford Hills School District and weekly summer events that bring surrounding communities together.
“Everyone knows that there’s no place like Maine in the summer – but what many people may not know is that ‘summer in Maine’ doesn’t just mean the coast,” said Senator King. “Roberts Farm Preserve is well-known for its winter activities, but is also an excellent example of all that inland Maine has to offer during the summer, from beautiful hiking trails to regular events that bring people together. A the same time, the Preserve is a vital part of the local community, and has taken an active role in conserving the Maine outdoors and educating the next generation of Western Maine through their partnership with the Oxford Hills School District. This is just as much a part of Maine summer as any day at the beach, and just as beautiful.”
The Roberts Farm Preserve, located in Norway, has 165 acres of land and miles of trails for hiking or skiing. In addition, the Preserve works with the Oxford Hills School District to provide experiential learning programs. The Preserve grows a variety of food products, some of which are sold to the school district’s cafeteria, and some of which are offered as part of a farm share program to members of the community.
