ALFRED, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) participated in the Limerick Memorial Day Parade, and gave remarks at a ceremony at Tibbetts Memorial Veterans Park.
“Memorial Day is a time of remembrance and reflection,” said Senator King. “So as I spoke today at Tibbetts Memorial Park in Limerick, I thought of my friend, John McCain, who has always served his country honorably, ranging from his decorated time in uniform to his decades of bipartisan, serious work in the Senate. And as I viewed the wall that stands in the Park, I reflected upon how it exemplifies the long history of Maine people serving our nation. Dating back to the Revolutionary War, Maine people have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country. Their names, and this day, are a reminder of our continued commitment to ensure the memory of these fallen servicemembers lives on.”
Earlier today, Senator King released a Memorial Day statement in honor of our country’s fallen servicemembers. Later this afternoon, Senator King toured the Layman Way Recovery Center in Alfred. The center is designed to provide treatment for chemical dependencies to 24 individuals at a time, and is a collaborative effort of York County Government, the York County District Attorney’s Office and York County Shelter Programs.
