MILLINOCKET, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) and officials with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Small Business Administration met with local leaders in the Katahdin region to discuss economic development opportunities within the forest products industry. Senator King and the officials, including the Regional Director for the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), also toured several businesses in the area, including PK Floats in Lincoln, Scotts Co. of Medway, and Maine Heritage Timber of Millinocket.
The economic development discussions will continue tomorrow when Senator King and Linda Cruz-Carnall, the Regional Director for the EDA, visit local manufacturer Millinocket Fabrication and Machine. Later in the day, they will also participate in a ribbon cutting at Designlab, a graphic design and marketing company that relocated to Millinocket in 2015. Both events are open to the press and more information is below.
During tomorrow’s tour, Senator King and Regional Director Cruz-Carnall are expected to discuss the recent letter from Senator King and Senator Susan Collins, which urged the Department of Commerce to take action in the wake of several Maine mill closures.
