WASHINGTON, D.C. – During an interview this morning with Bloomberg News, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) again called on his colleagues in Congress to pass an extension of the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program.
“I am hearing from people in Maine – just heartbreaking stories – people who’ve worked for 30 years, had long work histories, and through no fault of their own just can’t find anything – and this is the difference between being able to pay the rent or staying in your car,” Senator King said. “We’ve just got to figure this out.”

Following the release of the February Jobs Report by the U.S. Department of Labor last Friday, which revealed stronger job growth numbers but an increase in the long-term unemployed of 203,000, Senator King called on Congress to immediately pass an extension of emergency unemployment benefits. He has supported every proposal to renew the EUC program, which expired last December.
During the interview Senator King also discussed financial assistance for Ukraine as well as the President’s Fiscal Year 2015 budget proposal and appropriations. Senator King is a member of the Senate Budget, Armed Services, and Intelligence Committees.
