In Maine

This Veterans Day, my staff and I traveled throughout the state to join with Maine veterans in observance of this important day and to thank them for their service to our country. Shown below, I delivered remarks at a Veterans Day ceremony hosted by TOGUS VA Medical Center in Augusta. Read my Veterans Day statement here.

Earlier this month we had a busy day in the Augusta office. I met with representatives from Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, the Citizens Trade Policy Commission, Maine Citizens for Clean Elections, and in addition, we hosted a roundtable discussion on rural broadband access in Maine.

At the start of November, I joined students and teachers at Mt. Ararat High School as part of my "Capitol Class with Angus" series. They were well prepared with excellent questions and I enjoyed sharing my experiences working in the U.S. Senate.

Policy Update

  • Senators King and Blunt introduced The Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act that would free grocery stores and other food establishments from the burdens of a poorly interpreted menu-labeling regulation.
  • The Senate Intelligence Committee accepted an amendment authored by myself and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), The Targeted Strike Oversight Reform Act, which would require that an independent alternative analysis commonly referred to as a "red-term analysis" be conducted if the government is considering the legality or use of targeted lethal force against a known U.S. person.

Politico: Angus King Sees Hope in Budget Deal

"As an independent focused on finding pragmatic solutions and breaking through the partisan gridlock, his perspective and hard work has been especially critical in writing and passing our budget in the Senate, starting a budget conference, and explaining to the American people the values and priorities behind the budget numbers," Murray told POLITICO.
