WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins, a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Angus King, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, hosted their colleague, Senator Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi), at Bath Iron Works (BIW) this morning. Senator Cochran is the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which writes the legislation that allocates federal funds to the numerous government agencies, departments, and organizations on an annual basis.
“We are proud to share a strong commitment to our United States Navy with Senator Thad Cochran. We are honored to welcome him to Maine and to have the opportunity to show him both the dedicated workforce and the superior quality ships that have been designed and built at Bath Iron Works for more than 130 years,” the Senators said in a joint statement. “In the Senate, we work cooperatively to ensure that that our sailors are properly resourced and able to execute their critical missions around the world.”
During the visit, Senator Cochran received a tour of BIW and joined Senators Collins and King for a high level briefing from BIW representatives.
