Collins, King Congratulate Three Maine Schools Awarded National Blue Ribbon Recognition

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King applauded Falmouth Middle School, Reeds Brook Middle School in Hampden, and Sea Road School in Kennebunk for being recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools. These Maine schools are three of only 329 public and private schools across the nation being recognized for this achievement in 2016.

“Educators across Maine work tirelessly to help build a brighter future for our state, and these three Blue Ribbon schools are shining examples of that positive impact,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Education is a collective effort, and these awards are well deserved by the teachers, administrators, families, and students who all make Falmouth Middle School, Reeds Brook Middle School, and Sea Road School fantastic places to learn and grow. We are proud of Maine’s 2016 Blue Ribbon schools and congratulate them on earning this recognition.”

For 34 years, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has honored public and private elementary, middle, and high schools. Blue Ribbon schools are recognized for overall academic excellence or for making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap.

Representatives from Falmouth Middle School, Reeds Brook Middle School, and Sea Road School are invited to Washington, D.C., for a recognition ceremony in November. At the ceremony, each Blue Ribbon school will be presented with an award plaque and a flag.
