WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today welcomed Lucy Jakub of Blue Hill to Washington, D.C. where she will serve as a Library of Congress Junior Fellow, working in the Library’s Conservation Division. Both Senators Collins and King met with Lucy, a student at Columbia University in New York, and congratulated her on her fellowship.

“Lucy is an impressive young woman who will serve as a wonderful representative for the state of Maine at the Library of Congress,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “By increasing access to America's cultural heritage and helping preserve millions of international collections, Library of Congress Junior Fellows like Lucy play an essential role at our nation's oldest federal cultural institution. We applaud Lucy for this well-deserved recognition and are proud of her selection to such a competitive program.”

The Library of Congress Junior Fellowship is a ten-week paid internship program that enables undergraduate and graduate students to explore and expand the Library’s comprehensive resources, while promoting the significance of its services to researchers and the general public. The mission of the Conservation Division is to preserve uninterrupted access to the Library's collection of works.
