WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King applauded two Maine schools, Coastal Ridge Elementary School in York and Minot Consolidated School in Minot, that have earned recognition from the U.S. Department of Education as 2015 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Only 335 schools across the nation were recognized for this achievement.
“Here in Maine, we are truly fortunate to have so many dedicated members of the community who work hard to ensure that every child has a learning environment that is safe, welcoming, and enriching,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Education plays a vital role in opening the doors of opportunity to the next generation of leaders in Maine, and across the nation. We are proud to recognize the teachers, administrators, faculty, students, and families who all contribute to the success of the Coastal Ridge Elementary School and Minot Consolidated School on a daily basis.”
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students achieve high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. The award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.
In November, representatives from Coastal Ridge Elementary School and Minot Consolidated School are invited to Washington, D.C. for a recognition ceremony. At the ceremony, each school will be presented with an award plaque and a flag for the school’s building.
