WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King applauded an announcement from Sun Life Financial that the company plans to open a new and innovative operations center in Scarborough that will immediately create approximately 100 jobs with plans to add an additional 100 over the next few years.
“Today’s announcement is wonderful news and I extend a warm welcome to Sun Life Financial,” said Senator Collins. “I’m pleased that in the global competition for jobs, Sun Life has selected the Portland area for its new operations center. This announcement will bring new employment opportunities for our extraordinarily talented workforce.”
“This announcement is great news for the Portland area and for Maine,” said Senator King. “Clearly, Sun Life Financial recognizes the opportunity to find talented workers and grow in the Pine Tree State. The new Center for Healthy Work in Scarborough will bring good-paying jobs to the area, and I’m pleased to join in welcoming Sun Life to Maine.”
The Sun Life Center for Healthy Work will be located in Scarborough, and will focus on enhancing the company’s disability benefits management. Sun Life identified the Portland area in part because of the existing regional expertise in disability benefits highlighted by Unum and other established companies. Sun Life Financial is a leading provider of employment benefits in the United States, including life, disability, dental, voluntary and medical stop loss products. The Canadian-based company, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2015, already has several offices in New England. The company’s U.S. headquarters are in Wellesley, MA. Maine & Co., a Portland-based non-profit that provides consulting services to companies looking to relocate to or expand within the State of Maine, assisted Sun Life in developing the plan to expand to Maine.
