WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $499,440 to the National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (PETE) Community College Consortium for Health and Safety Training Program in South Portland.
“Investment in health training and occupational safety is crucial to successfully removing and containing hazardous waste across our state,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “This funding will help provide important safety and health training for workers and protect communities from these dangerous substances.”
This grant funding will allow South Portland’s National PETE to provide occupational safety and health training for workers who are or may be engaged in activities related to hazardous waste removal, containment, or chemical emergency response. National PETE is a nonprofit organization that helps facilitate partnerships with educational institutions, industry, and government through its network of more than 400 community, tribal, and technical colleges.
