Collins, King Announce More Than $611,000 for Upgrades to Presque Isle International Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that Presque Isle International Airport is being awarded grant funding for infrastructure upgrades. The Department of Transportation awards, totaling $611,647, will support the construction of a new 15,000 square yard terminal apron to accommodate increased use of larger scheduled passenger aircrafts. The funding will also support updates to the existing pavement management plan, which includes the pavement condition index survey.

This project was funded through the Airport Improvement Grant Program, which provides vital resources for maintaining and upgrading airport infrastructure. It is expected to enhance the passenger experience, bring more business to the region, and create additional opportunities for economic development.

“Maine's regional airports play an important role in our state’s transportation network, connecting people and businesses with communities throughout the state,” said Senators Collins and King. “This grant will support the expansion of Presque Isle International Airport’s capacity for scheduled commercial flights while also creating economic opportunities throughout the state. By investing in our airports, we are ensuring Maine’s communities remain connected and primed for continued economic success.”

More specifically, the funding is allocated as follows:

  • $481,117 for the design phase of the construction of a new terminal apron to accommodate larger passenger aircraft
  • $130,530 for the Pavement Management Plan

Senator Collins, Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee and former Ranking Member of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, was part of the core group of 10 Senators who negotiated the text of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Senators Collins and King both worked to negotiate and pass this historic legislation, which will deliver billions of dollars to Maine for investments in broadband, roads, bridges, and more.
