Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will receive a total of $2,436,632 for the Maine Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) Cancer Prevention and Control Programs. The funding was awarded through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. 

“Cancer has taken a tremendous toll on far too many Americans and their families,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “This investment will strengthen Maine’s ability to fight this devastating and costly disease that causes so much pain and suffering, so much fear and uncertainty, and so much heartbreak.”

The Maine CDC Cancer Prevention and Control Programs work to address the state's cancer burden by: 1) conducting cancer surveillance, 2) increasing access to cancer screening, 3) improving health outcomes for people living with cancer, and 4) providing the evidence for and evaluation of policy and environmental approaches.
