Collins, King Announce More Than $220,000 in HUD Counseling Grants

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded Maine $220,236 in home counseling grants to help Mainers find housing, make informed housing decisions, or maintain their current home. The Maine State Housing Authority in Augusta will receive $202,807 and the Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA) in Bath will receive $17,429. Both organizations work to prevent homelessness by providing underserved individuals and families with important home counseling services.

“These grants are welcome news for Mainers facing foreclosures or experiencing difficulties in the home-buying process,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “The funding will support home counseling services that help people to improve their housing conditions, evaluate their financial ability to buy a home, better understand their financing options, and navigate what can often be an extremely confusing and difficult process.”

Maine State Housing Authority (Maine Housing) is an independent quasi-state agency which strives to assist Maine people in obtaining and maintaining, safe, affordable housing. More information about Maine Housing can be found here.

MMCA is a community action organization that works on behalf of low-income and other at-risk individuals, assisting them to identify and address their needs, and enabling them to achieve self-sufficiency and independence. MMCA is a HUD-approved Local Housing Counseling Agency and has a long history of providing housing-related services. Learn more about MMCA here.
