Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the Wabanaki Health and Wellness (WHW) organization will receive a total of $1,054,504 to help build and expand the community’s public health infrastructure. This funding, awarded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Office for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support, will assist WHW with providing clinical case management, administering free health and preventive testing, and hosting wellness meetings, among other services.
“Wabanaki Health and Wellness is a critical resource for Maine’s tribal communities,” said Senator Collins and King in a joint statement. “We welcome this important investment, which will allow the organization to strengthen its public health infrastructure, helping to ensure the health and safety of Maine’s tribes amid this devastating public health and economic crisis.”
Established in 1996, Wabanaki Health and Wellness is a not-for-profit organization for tribally-enrolled Native Americans in Penobscot, Washington, and Aroostook Counties.
