Collins, King Announce Justice Jon Levy’s Nomination Approved by Judiciary Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the Senate Judiciary Committee reported Justice Jon Levy, nominee to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine, out of committee.  Justice Levy's nomination now awaits a vote before the full Senate.

"As we testified before the Judiciary Committee in December, Justice Levy's extensive experience as a state judge and in private practice makes him extremely well qualified for Maine's federal district court," Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement.  "We are confident that, if confirmed, Jon Levy will serve the people of Maine and the nation with great intelligence, integrity, and impartiality."

Justice Levy, who currently serves on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, was nominated for the position by President Obama in mid-September.  As Governor, Senator King nominated Levy to the Maine District Court in 1995 and then the Maine Supreme Judicial Court in 2002.

Senators Collins and King testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in December in support of Justice Levy's nomination.
