Collins, King Announce Federal Grant to Provide Medical Services to Low Income Mainers, Including Homeless

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced that the Portland Community Health Center (PCHC) will receive a three-year grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to some of Cumberland County’s most vulnerable populations, including those experiencing homelessness. PCHC will receive $1,658,833 each year over the life of the grant, totaling $4,976,499.

“This is encouraging news for those in Cumberland County who struggle with accessing health care,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “Health services are essential for all people to succeed at work and learn in school.  In particular, Maine’s homeless population faces a long list of difficult challenges, and health services are one of many critical building blocks that helps families get back on their feet. We are pleased by this investment.”

The Health Resources and Services Administration is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The grant was awarded on a competitive basis.
