Collins, King announce $9.8 million investment for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the U.S. Navy plans to provide $9.8 million for Operations and Maintenance funding for a repair and modernization project at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) in Kittery, Maine.

Specifically, the project will include repairs to the pump well on one of PNSY’s dry docks, electrical system repairs, and repairs to the fire protection system.

“The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery is an economic engine that drives the economy of southern Maine and New Hampshire. We have long advocated for the Navy to address modernization needs at the shipyard and are pleased that they plan to make these important improvements. These repairs will help improve the safety and efficiency of the terrific workforce that keeps our Nation's nuclear submarines ready for sea every day,” the Senators said in a joint statement.
