Collins, King Announce $800,000 in Funding for Maine DHHS to Help Combat Substance Abuse

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will receive grant funding from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.  The funding, totaling $800,000, will support substance abuse treatment and recovery services for youth aged 12-24.

“Programs that support youth struggling with substance abuse can make a significant difference in the lives of so many people in our state,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Tackling the issue of substance abuse is vital to building safer, healthier, and more prosperous communities."

The grant funding will be administered by the DHHS Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHS). SAMHS provides leadership in substance abuse and mental health prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery in Maine. Its goal is to enhance the health and safety of Maine citizens through the reduction of the overall impact of mental illness and substance use, abuse, and dependency.
