WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the China Village Fire Department will receive a $46,740 grant through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). Specifically, the funding will come through AFG’s Operations and Firefighting Safety Program, which provides funding for training, equipment, wellness and fitness, and modifications to department facilities.
“The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is a vital source of funds for our fire and rescue personnel, particularly in rural communities across Maine. In order for our first responders to perform their duties, it’s critical that they have access to the necessary resources, like vehicles, equipment, and proper training,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “These federal funds will play a key role in ensuring that the China Village Fire Department is well-equipped to meet the demands of the job.”
The China Village Fire Department is staffed by volunteers.
