WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded a total of $300,000 to three Maine health care providers to combat opioid abuse in Maine. Diversion Alert in Houlton, Down East AIDS Network Inc. in Ellsworth, and Maine General Medical Center in Augusta will each receive $100,000.

“Opioid abuse has hurt our communities, divided families, and ruined lives,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This grant funding will support the development of innovative community partnerships to combat this threat and will increase access to emergency care that can reverse the effects of opioid overdoses.”

The grant project is titled Rural Access to Emergency Devices – Opioid Overdose Reversal Grant Program. The funding is awarded through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services.
