WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) today announced his schedule for the upcoming weekend, which includes a trip to Boothbay as well as a visit to the La Kermesse Franco-Americaine Festival in Biddeford. The following events are open to the press:
Friday, June 27th:
1:00 p.m.: Tour of Boothbay Craft Brewery
301 Adams Pond Road, Boothbay, ME 04537
Senator King will tour the brewery, meet with the owners and employees, and discuss ways in which Congress can support craft breweries across Maine and the nation. Senator King is a cosponsor of the Small BREW Act, which would stimulate regional economies through a reduction in the excise tax on each barrel of beer brewed by small brewers. He was also one of several lawmakers who earlier this year pressed the FDA to consider the economic effect of regulating spent grains produced by brewers during the beer making process and used by farmers for livestock feed.
2:30 p.m.: Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences 40th Anniversary Celebration
60 Bigelow Drive, East Boothbay, ME 04544
Senator King will deliver short remarks honoring Bigelow Laboratory on its 40th Anniversary and recognizing the important research it has conducted over the past four decades.
Saturday, June 28th:
11:30 a.m.: 32nd Annual La Kermesse Franco-Americaine Festival
Biddeford Middle School Field, 335 Hill Street, Biddeford, ME 04005
Senator King will attend La Kermesse and meet with attendees to celebrate Biddeford’s Franco-American heritage. This year’s festival honors Mr. Joseph Plamondon, founder of the festival and former teacher, who was posthumously inducted into the Franco Hall of Fame this year. The festival is also dedicated to Mr. Patrick LaCourse, a native of Biddeford who lived in Los Angeles but was an avid patron who traveled to attend the festival annually before his passing in February.
