In May Podcast, King Discussed Ways to Better Support Veterans

This edition of “Inside Maine” features Senator Heidi Hietkamp of North Dakota & Amy Marcotte of Sanford Vet Center

BRUNSWICK, ME – This weekend, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the May edition of his podcast focusing on ways to support veterans in Maine and across America. In the podcast, he interviews Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) and Amy Marcotte, the Team Leader at the Sanford Vet Center, about ongoing efforts in Congress and in Maine to provide our veterans with the support they deserve.

The “Inside Maine Podcast with Senator Angus King” is a 30-minute program that aims to help keep Maine people informed about issues of the day, how they affect life in the state, and how they factor into Senator King’s work as one of two independents in the U.S. Senate. Senator King’s podcast builds on his existing radio show that airs on Newsradio WGAN in Portland, Maine between 10 and 11 a.m. on almost every last Saturday of the month. His most recent guests were Maine Beer Company founder Dan Kleban and Blue Ox Malthouse founder Joel Alex, who joined the podcast to discuss Maine’s craft brew industry.

Earlier this month, the Senate passed bipartisan spending legislation that will fund critical support services for Maine veterans. The legislation includes an amendment authored by Senator King that would help more disabled American veterans obtain the student loan forgiveness benefits they are entitled to under current law. The bill also includes a King-backed provision authored by Senator Heitkamp to improve mental health services for rural veterans.
