Where I Stand
Cyberthreats on are the rise; bad actors and adversaries are constantly looking to exploit digital weaknesses across the public and private sectors – including everything from phones to the electric grid to hospital networks to the systems that run our economy. It’s no longer a world solely where armies face off against other armies; cyberattacks are becoming a weapon of choice on the modern battlefield. It is critical to address cybersecurity risks and strengthen America’s ability to respond to critical infrastructure threats in real time.
Public-private collaboration and responsible behavior in cyberspace are vital to combatting these cyber threats, as the private sector owns 80% of digital infrastructure. Jurisdictional, bureaucratic, and funding barriers must not hinder these efforts.
It’s important to provide baseline levels of assurance to customers, through information and education, regarding the security of their personal products. Combatting disinformation and maintaining election security are also essential to the protection of our democracy.
Leadership is key in the world of cybersecurity. The Office of the National Cyber Director provides critical national leadership, improving the cybersecurity posture of the United States. This cyber leadership must also establish clear deterrents – our adversaries should know that if they hit us in cyberspace, we’ll hit back.
