After negotiations between the White House and Senate leaders including Senator King, the American Rescue Plan included $10 billion in funding for broadband, as well as more than $7 billion to close the digital divide for students nationwide.
For Maine, this has meant:
- More than $128 million in American Rescue Plan funds to expand broadband statewide.
- $167,000 for each of Maine’s five tribes to improve broadband connections.
- $1,646,178 for 23 Maine schools and school districts to close the digital learning gap.
Combined with the broadband funds Maine is projected to receive from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act upon House passage – the state will receive hundreds of millions of dollars to increase affordable, high-speed broadband access statewide and narrow Maine’s digital divide.
