JERUSALEM, ISRAEL – U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine), a member of the Senate Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, is currently participating in a congressional delegation trip led by Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, which includes visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Israel.
In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Friday and Saturday, Senator King met with Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz as well as Prince Khalid bin Bandar, the head of Saudi General Intelligence Protectorate, other Saudi leaders, and leaders of the Syrian Opposition.
In Doha, Qatar, on Saturday and Sunday, Senator King met with Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, and other Qatari leaders.
In the meetings, the leaders discussed the coalition's plans to train and equip Syrian opposition in the battle to degrade and ultimately destroy the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
In Jerusalem, Israel on Sunday, Senator King participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Yad Vashem memorial to the victims of the Holocaust where the delegation also remembered the victims of the recent attacks in Paris. He also met with Israel's President Reuven Rivlin Sunday and will meet with several other high-ranking government officials during his visit to Israel.
